Images (shot with a Fuji S-2 Pro) in the Photoshop CS Browser have a lock symbol in the upper left corner. I can work with them but I cannot rename them. It seems like a very basic thing, but I can find no information on locking or unlocking an image file in Photoshop Help or other references. Could someone tell me how to unlock the images and/or how to not lock them in the first place? Thanks

Have they been moved to the local hard drive first? You cannot edit a file that is sitting on the memory card for the camera.

If they are still locked, right click on the file on your desktop, and remove the check from Read Only.

Originally I burned a CD directly from the memory card, brought it up in the browser, and found the images locked. Then I tried putting them onto the hard drive, opened them in the browser again, and they were still locked.

Where on my desktop should I be able to find a "read only" box to uncheck? The images open fine in Photoshop CS so I don't encounter a box there. Thanks for your help

After you copy the files to a folder on your HD. Open the folder and select all of the files. Right click and choose properties. Uncheck read-only, click apply, and it will unlock all of the files.

Phil's right. When you copy files from a CD that is no longer recordable, the files are considered read-only and the copies are made read-only by default.

Fortunately, it's simple enough to change the file properties of all the files in a folder at once, using the above method.

Or you can simply go into the properties for the folder itself, and click the radio button that says "apply changes to this folder, subfolder, and files".

Thanks for the help everyone, very kind of you. I will try doing that. I have been using Photoshop haphazardly just to get the jobs out, I finally have the time to do it right (with a guidebook on my knee) and ran into this very basic problem. I will probably post more questions, thanks again.
