So far I can only find this post on the first of those 4 links.
It's quite different from forum4designers though. There are more ads
than text on that page, and I think that forum isn't as popular as
forum4designers. For comparison: In the past 10 days I got 9 visitors
through forum4designers, and 0 through 1-script.
(and 7x highdots, 2x hostingforumz and 1x Work the web)

I'm not complaining about the visitors I get - it's the linking of my
words to ads I have nothing to do with that I don't like.

I don't consciously write my posts to have them link to me, but yes, I
do notice that everytime I post a link to an example, I get a couple
of visitors through that forum. Sometimes till months later even.

Tip for you: when you write a script, don't post the content of the
script on Usenet, but provide a link to your site, where you explain
about the script and show the code ;-)

So, if for eample I wanted to let people know about some freely
available word lists I distribute (which include common stop words of
use to people producing web spiders and the like) including adverbs,
prepositions, adjectives and even a list of US place names that they
can find them at:

http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/xfree.htm

Rather than publishing them here (they're too long anyway).

Indeed. I just clicked that link, and if I wouldn't have seen your
site before, I might have wandered around your site, have seen several
ads, clicked those...

Too bad I already saw your site and I'm not the ad-clicking type ;P

If this thread is going to be on f4d, my guess is that in your post,
the words distribute, web, and publishing will be made into links.

Here are some short comments from someone who has been on the net longer
than its been the net (me)

The biggest complaint I have about what you are pointing out is the
general move toward WWW being the total definition of what is and isnt
internet. Moving newsgroups to web, even groups.google, is a bad thing in
my mind.

There were always pros and cons to each service of the net. This is one
of the drawbacks of public postings. An alternative was to go to elists
where more control is offered.

The alt.hacker newsgroup has it worse than this one I think. As a
white-hat group its posts are often collected directly into black-hat
forums where the conversations continue without us. They make fun of us
and plan schemes to prove us as impotent.

They're making a mess.
They (f4d) also mix up the order inside threads. Makes for complicated
reading, and the only reason is that they can't get the time of
posting right. They duplicate a bunch of messages, give them all the
same date and time, and let the computer sort them. (or at least
that's what it looks like happened)
