So far, from the looks of it, ACE-HOST (
http://www.ace-host.net ) seems to
be the best hosting provider for my needs (*). Has anyone had good or bad
experiences with them?
(*) One thing I don't understand though, is whether I can point multiple
domains to the same ace-host IP / account.

Technically - there are no issues with that (ref: http 1.1), however your
new host may have administrative (billing) concerns. Depends on their
sales model.

Actually, its quite easy to tell at WHT. Look at the number of posts a
person has made. It would not be logical for someone to hang around and
make 100s of posts, just to slam a competitor.

in mind that people are more likely to complain than compliment.
But still - that seems like an awful lot of unhappy customers.

I'm not defending ace-host, as I have no experience with them, but keep in mind that people are more likely to complain than compliment.

The most disturbing was the report that they deleted a web site "for using
too much CPU time" (*), then billed the owner for renewal nearly a year
later.
(*) Damn it, time-sharing UNIX systems have been invented many decades ago

Their site looks like crap. You'd think they would at least spend 5 minutes
and make their logo look like it was not done in MS Paint.
