Hi,
A friend has a domain she has bought several years ago which stopped working
suddenly several weeks ago. Upon looking up the domain with whois the status
is REDEMPTIONPERIOD - the domain expired on 9th May, and the status updated
on 19th June. Can you guys suggest the best way to hold onto this domain -
the registrar seems not to be contactable anymore - their telephone number
goes through to a business centre which they left 12 months ago?
Any help would be most appreciated

My guess is you're confusing the company (host, maybe?) she bought the
domain through, with the actual registrar. Registrars generally never go
out of business. If you post the domain name, we can help you track down
the actual registrar and advise.

Just FYI - It usually costs a couple hundreds bucks to get a name out of
"Redemption" status. If it's not a name someone else is going to grab up
you could always wait until it expires completely (probably within a week or
so) and re-register it. Of course it's possible to lose the name that way.
Post the name and someone can look up the registrar for you to contact
directly.
