Grey,

Could you possibly take a photo, or scan the card before you send it so
that we can all share in having seen it?

Why not actually post it around the world, so that everyone can actually
sign it. It'll take far longer, but more personal.
Just a thought.

I sent a 150 pesos (IIRC) book to my mom, I had to put 180 pesos (IIRC)
stamps on it (it might have been stamps with a value of 1 pesos since the
whole wrapper was covered in stamps). It got lost :-(

Also, when I lived in NZ stuff got lost.

I included the following note:

QUOTE
Dear Naida and BJ,
with hope this card is well received,

I do not know how much Bill shared with you about his online life, so
this card may come unexpectedly.  I am sending this card to you on
behalf of the Usenet group alt.www.webmaster, a community in which
your husband was an active participant.

For a number of years, Bill and the members of our group shared
laughs, opinions, arguments and knowledge in the spirit of equality
and hope of a better tomorrow.  Last year, Bill suddenly stopped
posting messages in our group, which was not initially worrisome; it
is common for some of us to drop offline for a number of months for
any number of reasons, only to reappear later.

Because of this, it was only recently that we investigated what had
happened to Bill and discovered the sad truth of his passing.  Our
sympathy goes out to you.

Bill touched the hearts and minds of many people the world over,
perhaps more so than you realize.  A small number of these people
wished to send their sincerest condolences to you both:

add their name to the list who would've wished to do so.

I don't really expect anything back from this, but I feel better for
sending it.

Thanks for doing that, Grey. I'm sure they will appreciate it. I know we
certainly do. :-)

Greetings,

I have a card to send, so here is the list of names I have so far.  I
will probably mail this on Monday seeing as it's a holiday today in
Canada.

I have mailed the card to Bill's family.  I took pictures of it here:

I included the following note:

Baho Utot - Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines
Charles Sweeney - Glasgow, Scotland

Well done, Grey, and thank you for taking the trouble, I'm certain it will
mean a lot to his family..

We had a family tragedy 18 months ago, when my sister-in-law Attracta Harron
went missing and eventaully was found murdered and buried in a field. During
the time we were searching for her, we made extensive use of a website I
developed - some of you may recall me posting about it here.

As a result of the website and a guest book on it, the family got many
mesages of support from around the world during the search for Attracta, the
traumatic period between a man being charged with her murder and her body
being found and then the distressing days from her body actually was found
until her funeral took place.

These messages from complete strangers were a great comfort to the family
and brought home to us that although today's world at times seems uncaring
and even vicious, the majority of people are still good decent people who
wish well to their fellow man.
