so i get an email: "please remove the [part number] from the web" from a
client. so i jump up, delete the record from the database and prepare to
party down for america's state sponsored weekend of alcohol and fireworks.
we call it 'independance day', but i think it might be called 'exhibit your
dependencies day'.
but i get a call. "you didn't take [part number] down from the web".
"yes i did, it's not there anymore"
"then how come when i do a google search it shows me this part number?"
oh, i get it. i was supposed to purge this [part number] from human memory,
it was never to be printed again in any readable media.
for once, i didn't go into the rap and bury my disdain under professional
detachment, i just told them i couldn't do that. there are dependencies to
exhibit in this great land, no time for tots.
but oh, the things i wanted to say, could have said or have been thinking i
should have said for the past hour......

most of Washington, under the command of William Lyon McKenzie
who was insane and hammered all the time. We got bored because
they ran away, so we came home and partied. Go figure.

I can't understand how a term can be considered "racist" (sic) in

Yep. They tour the world and regularly kick the arses off those bloody
pohms.
Locally (Sydney) there are also the bulldogs, the sharks (blinking
varietey), the roosters, the tigers, the sea eagles, the bronchos, the
eels, the eagles, the dragons, the panthers, the rabbitohs, and a few other
non animalistic ones like the warriors, knights, raiders, cowboys and wests.
The latter *could* be deemed to be racist as nobody really ever *wants* to

I give you a setup like that, and even bring attention to it being a

Please dont use that word. People will call you racist.
Which word? Canadian?
Yesh, please call us Canucks. Or "Crazy Canucks" if you can spare the syllables.
I can't understand how a term can be considered "racist" (sic) in referring to a nation's own people, when said nation has sports teams with those very names. Like the New York Yankees, which often get called "The Yanks" in newspaper, radio and television. Also the Vancouver Canucks...

Q. Which is the greater problem in the world today, ignorance or apathy?

|
No it isn't. I'm not doubting that it's still around -- that much is
self-evident -- but there are several older companies. One that sprang to
mind immediately (didn't even have to turn to Google) is Zildjian --
makers of gongs and cymbals -- they make top quality instruments.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avedis_Zildjian_CompanyThe Corporation of London is pretty damn old too -- over 900 years old in
fact. It is not what most people think of when they say "company" -- it's
the local goverment for the square mile of London, but is run as a company
instead of a council -- kind of odd, but if it's worked for 900 years, why
change it?
Now, as a result of some Googling I've also found:
Kongo Gumi <http://www.kongogumi.co.jp/> was founded in 578 AD in Japan.
They are a construction firm. Another Japanese firm, Hoshi Ryokan was
founded in 718 AD -- they run a hotel -- a family business for 46
generations. Chateau de Goulaine was founded about a thousand years ago.
They run a vineyard, and also have an on-site museum famous for its
butterfly collection. Barone Ricasoli in Italy were founded in 1141 and
run a vineyard of over 3000 acres. They also make olive oil.
The list continues:
http://www.familybusinessmagazine.com/oldworld.htmlAll of these make the Hudson's Bay Co look like a spring chicken given its
1670 incorporation.

Yep. They tour the world and regularly kick the arses off those bloody pohms.

Locally (Sydney) there are also the bulldogs, the sharks (blinking varietey), the roosters, the tigers, the sea eagles, the bronchos, the eels, the eagles, the dragons, the panthers, the rabbitohs, and a few other non animalistic ones like the warriors, knights, raiders, cowboys and wests.
|
Trying to work out who you missed...ah, the Storm (ok, not from Sydney,
but neither are the Broncos or several others, and the Warriors aren't
even Australian).
For those who aren't familiar with Aussie-land, all of the above are
Rugby League teams, not Rugby (Union), like the Wallabies. Our national
Rugby League team is the Kangaroos, who also regularly thrash any other
countries stupid enough to want to play them (though that's because no
other country really plays the game in the first place).

The latter *could* be deemed to be racist as nobody really ever *wants* to live in the western suburbs.
