Hi folks,

Looks like London has got the Olympics, but has the sudden surge of
people trying to find out who got it killed the BBC's servers? :)

I can get in (1328).

Yes, London won the Olympic bid for 2012. Though perhaps that should
be south-east England, as events will be taking place around the
region. God help the British tax-payer is all I can say.

Why?

Greece's games cost 3.2 Billion.
3 billion of which was payed for by private enterprise.

Sorry, it was me. I was that straw that broke the camel's back.

Only kidding. It was very slow just before lunch, but seems to have
recovered now.

It's a give-and-take situation. Sour grapes is probably the explanation for
your remark.

Why would Matt have "sour grapes" because his own country won the
Olympic bid? :

Answers on a post card please. But we are already looking forward to
the fact that my daughter will be 14 then and perhaps able to actually
attend an Olympic event as a spectator.

Are you poorer or richer than last year?

Yes.

Seriously. When I was twenty I'd think nothing of a ten mile walk. Now I
take a bus or train for anything over five miles. By the time I'm seventy
I suspect I'll be taking a tai to get to the end of the street.

I've written to Gotdon Brown, but apparently I'm not eligible for debt
relief or grant aid since I can't prove good governance. So that's no more
AK47s this year then, and I may not be able to torture more than one
dissident a week.

We didn't get to be the world's second largest exporter of military
equipment (I shan't say 'arms' it would be too easy for you <g>)
without giving third-world governments the money to pay for them!

Perhaps if I applied for an aid grant, and dropped subtle hints about
wishing to embark on some ethnic cleansing, water privatisation and
oil reserves I am willing to allow foreign companies to exploit, I
might get some cash?

Cynical aint I?

Matt
