Hi,

Do any of ad providers pay per impression?

I'm tired of this useless pay per click model.

I'm not making any money because nobody is
clicking, presumably because the ads suck
or people are cheap/poor.

Thanks.

Or the ads don't relate to the visitors of your site. Are the Ads
content-sensitive, or are they just a random bunch of crappy banner ads?

Google adsense has a mix of PPC and CPM advertising. Try them, they
actually have very relevant ads (not the "you have been selected as a
lottery winner" or "click here to kill the monkey" junk), and good
payouts.

The relevancy varies widely. As do the payouts.

Suffice to say, we don't use them.

It's good for brand advertising, but a scam for publishers.

Possibly both.

Why not investigate:

You say "good payouts", but what do you perceive as a good return? Cover for
the hosting costs or utility bills too? For me, Google AdSense only does
the former only (just over USD 30 a month). I suspect this can be described
as disappointing by those who seek profits (I am not among these), e.g.
forum administrators, search engines and blog hosts. Blogger were acquired
by Google because they failed to make profits despite all the traffic.

If I consider only google adsense (no links sold by me personally),
adsense pays for hosting, utility bills, and food for the family, even
during school vacation.

Try different size adsense ads and also try different positions and colors
of the ads.

I'm using Google AdSense, and they really don't understand
my various webpages. They make a guess, but the guess is usually
wrong. However I haven't specified keywords & description,
maybe those would help.

You're an ass, FastClick is a worthwhile revenue stream for a lot of webmasters.

Now, if you told me Commission Junction was scum and paid very little, I
might listen.

Title your pages correctly, use the Description and keywords appropriately
and it'll come around.
Spend 20mins doing it right and it makes a big difference getting on target.

We did the backend thru and thru ourselves a while back.
CTR changed dramatically. Wen't from small returns to over $100 a day in
Adsense.

Maybe if your site didnt have many lies and half truths on it the ads would
be on target. Of course the amount per click will change since advertisers
bid on the results. And payouts have always been on-time and in full for me.

on my site, google does a sensible job of figuring out relevant
ads... hawking algebra software, tutoring etc. It's kind of funny
because my site provides free tutoring.

Hi,

There are some out there, but not as many as there was years ago. The big
problem is that "pay per impression" used to be the norm but so many people
abused the system and faked impressions or misled people into viewing the
ads that most ad companies dropped the whole model and went to the "pay per
click" or "pay commission per purchase" models.

That said, there are a few that do still exist, but most of them need ALOT
of impressions before they pay anything... so if your site isn't that busy
odds are you still won't make anything off a pay per impression system
either.

There can be a few factors in here...

First, not every visitor to your site is going to click an ad or even pay
attention to it. The actual percentage is probably pretty small and so
unless you are getting alot of visitors it won't add up to much.

The other thing is your site content versus the relevance of the ads. If
people are searching and finding your site while looking for a particular
item and the ads are about something totally different then that will push
the actual click rate of people who click on your ads down even lower or to
zero. On the other hand... if your ads compliment your content you can
greatly increase the click rate of ads on your site.

I don't know of any ad provider, but maybe you can try and
put some text links spots or banner space up for rent (monthly income,
does not depend on clicks)
on one of the link/ad auctions like http://www.Blazoo.com or linkadage

I know blazoo is just started, but they have a signup voucher you can use
to register for free: 17f4e01139a9

My sites aren't hugely busy, but I am pretty happy with the three-figure
monthly check I get from Google.

I haven't used any other ad agency so I can't compare it with anything.
