Assume I imported a picture into the library. Then I converted this small Bitmap to
a symbol (e.g. a Button). Provided that i do not need the original image somewhere else
in the source can I delete it from library?
In other words is it necessary for the existence of a symbol that its original
bitmap exists in parallel?

I'll be honest, I don't know... It's never come up for me. Why don't you
just delete it from the library and then test the movie... you can see for
yourself if it works or not.
