My friend is making a small ECG device to be carried by a patient which
records his 24 hr ECG .. He is then supposed to attach that machine to com
port and download the data [ the machine has a flash rom ]

When integer 'i' is sent to the machine it sends data to comp port..

now comes the main part .. is there a way by which that data can be taken
directly in flash to make a good looking ECG display ?

is there a way / function / action script by which flash can communicate
with a com port device ?

thanks

I would recommend a very simple C++ or VB application that read the data
from the com port and formatted it for transmission to flash.

When your flash is running, it opens an XMLSocket connection to the C++/VB
application and in the flash code you have assigned to .onXML, it receives
the data formatted from the C++/VB application.

Very simple.
