I am having trouble getting my forms to work. Here's my issue. I need to use
SS Includes so my pages have to be .asp or .stm to work properly. Is this
what is interfering with my forms working properly or do I have an error in
my form code?

Please help!!

Thank you!

Mark,

Thanks for the quick response. Actually, I had already tried that. I figured
out my problem. I made the actual form an html include page. For some reason,
I can't get the forms to work on pages other than htm. Don't know if that has
to do with the FP components or what. Oh, well. I'll just use the include
page workaround until I figure that one out.

Thanks again!

Take a look at the code. Right before the button "Send Contact Information"
is a hyperlink element that sends the button results to :
confirm_pages/contact_form_ok.htm

If you place your mouse over the button you'll be able to see it in the
status bar. Try removing that link and see what happens. You'll probably
have to switch to code view to see it and remove it.

Hope this helps,

How would I create something like a half-off coupon in FrontPage and send it
as an email attchment to someone? Would it have to be saved into a certain
format? Something that wouldn't require the recipient to have special
software to view it. Is this possible? Thanks.

Hello,

Can anyone advise how to command FP to hyperlink to a particular area
(perhaps called a frame) through FP 2003?
I am creating a site map and find that rather than just link to a page it
would be more helpful to arrive at a certain point.

Not sure if I need to use certain HTML code or just something I need to do
(just not sure how)

Hello,

I have a FrontPage Website (built with FP XP) with themes
and navigation, etc. using FP's features.

How do I add a Swish/Flash into to the first page, having
it appear only the first time the visitor goes to the
website, without having to redo the menu structure?

I've already figured out how to get it on the index.htm
page itself, but would rather see the flash first, then
click a button to change to the index.htm which has my
main/top menu on it.

Stefan Ruzynko has been looking at Shared border problem
posted September 19. Per my latest response there, this
has not been resolved yet. Latest trial was to add new top
border with a simple 'back to home page' link inserted.
This has brought upon its own set of problems.

Apart from the fact that I was unable to create the shared
border & apply to all pages, I was also unable to add/edit
hyperlinks. All I did was to create an error which froze
the programme & forced an alt/ctrl/delete. Attempts with
other links gave the same result.

Back to shared borders. I have added a bottom border to
most(?) pages, partly by inserting the necessary HTML in
HTML view. (I could not get the 'apply to all pages'
default to function.) Even though, on some pages, the HTML
view was showing the existence of some borders, it was not
showing in page view. And when I attempted to apply the
all pages option the content of the border would disappear
although the border itself remained.

'Detect & repair' has had no noticeable effect.

I do an automatic weekly virus scan so don't think that
can be the problem (but will set one going - Trend Micro
Housecall- before going home tonight.

The Microsoft Border is outside the <Body> </Body> tags.
This is where it should be?

Would love to have a solution. Am wasting hours attempting
to find one myself.

Thanks in anticipation.

Remove spaces from all file / folder names (illegal html, breaks links)
http://www.mainlychairs.co.nz/classic_dini...ge%20master.htm

I see you bottom shared border applied to the page
(from http://www.mainlychairs.co.nz/_borders/bottom.htm)

You are using a shared border just for that page
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="b">
vs. the same one applied to all pages like your home page
<meta name="Microsoft Border" content="b, default">

PS
you also have a <base target="_top"> tag in your pages which will affect all your links

FP unchecks the box because you are using the image default size
- but it will add the H/W attributes to the html by default
- the box remains checked only if you use sizes that are not the default image sizes

FP 03 adds the closing tag inside a link as if it is completing the link, but there is more to the link.

this is what FP shows even though the file contains the correct code with the "=" (when checked with Notepad:
<a href="mineral_edit.asp?mineralid><%=mineralid%>"><%=mineralid%></a>
should be:
<a href="mineral_edit.asp?mineralid=<%=mineralid%>"><%=mineralid%></a>

Does anyone know how to turn off the this feature?

Sounds like the 1Mbyte bug - it could affect files sized around 1,000,000
bytes, though I have never heard of files as small as 100,000 bytes being
affected (confused by 1000,00 KB - not sure if you missed a 0 at the
end(making 1GB files , or mis-placed the comma).

Is the 60 byte file size accurate?  It is an incredibly small file!
The
typical web page is closer to 10,000 bytes than 60.

There is a known bug affecting files around 1Mbyte or larger in some
(not
all) systems.  These need to be uploaded using FTP, in the local web
mark
them as "Do not publish", and after uploading open  the Live site (the
one
published to) in FrontPage, and Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks

Assuming you created the site to begin with, simply open FrontPage, open the site, open the page you
want to change, make changes, save and publish.

If you are taking over a site made for you, post the url so we can check the server for extensions
and then also post your operating system version and FrontPage version.

Okay from previous posts I have found out what "Smart
Quotes" are and that they can be replaced by ? marks when
the browser cannot properly interpet them. I tried
changing the charset and finally gave up and eyeballed
the quotes on the webpages and edited them. Also I could
not copy and paste the copyright symbol from the
character map under System Tools but had to use the hex
specification in the html to get it to work.

http://fairhopechristianchurch.org/smartquotes.htm

Now I look at a different website that I maintain and I
notice that it has "Smart Quotes" (the curly quotes) too
but they seem to display correctly--no ? marks. I also
use the copyright symbol and have no problem although I
did not specify it in hex.

Why will it display properly on one website and not
another? Does it have anything to do with the servers?

Running FP 2003, ISP supports FP 2002 extensions.

I have a menu linkbar using the Blue Calm theme. This linkbar is part
of a menu include page.

I previously used to FTP all the files (including the hidden and
_derived folders) and everything worked fine.

Obviously everything looks fine on my system.

Now that I'm publishing however, the theme doesn't show up. Just text
is shown. The rest of the site shows up properly.

I've tried everything - recalculating my links, switching to different
themes, applying the theme to the include page etc. Nothing works! My
ISP is useless, says it's FP's fault.

I'm almost ready to give up on FP publishing altogether.

Cathy,

There is a limit of 1MB under Windows XP that may be affect you, that is why I ask to first try
moving the pages, then move the images.

like so...
1. Create the new folder for the archive
2. Drag the pages from the current folder to the archive folder
3. Next drag the images one at a time to the archive folder

As long as you do all of this in FP, any links and reference to image should be updated.

I am the webmaster for my company's website. We are a

news stories into the archive folder, I get a server
error message. We can only do this on my partner's
workstation, which is a problem this week because his
computer is down! We work off a network drive in
Frontpage 2002. I'm running on XP and he has Windows
2000. Any clue what's going on? Thanks for your help!

As I said, we have no trouble doing this on my
associate's workstation, but I have not been able to do
it since I switched to XP. It should be just a simple
drag and drop to move and rename the folder.

To address your questions, none of our images are more
that 200K, and we're talking about moving a folder of 8-
12 html pages, so I don't really understand the your
second question. Thanks for your time.

FrontPage 2000.
Recently I have noticed that clicking the "undo" icon reverts to the last
saved version of the page undoing several steps instead of the just the last
one.

I recently loaded the Windows XP service pack 2 but I cannot remember if
FrontPage was doing this before the upgrade. Anyone else having this
problem.?

FrontPage 97 included a "Personal Web Server" on the
installation CD. I don't believe FrontPage 2003 has
anything similar.

If I wanted to set up my PC as a very simple web server,
what would be the easiest way to do this?

I don't think the Personal Web Server from the FrontPage
97 CD will work with Windows XP. In fact I believe I
tried it and this was my reason for purchasing FrontPage
2003.

Thank you,

I have not updated my website since the beginning of
August. I tried to update it yesterday (September 29th)
and received this message, "Server error: Cannot open
file "mother_lode.htm" for writing. Insufficient disk
space".

I saw the part about insufficient disk space and checked
my disk space and discovered that this is not a true
statement. I have written an email to my web host and he
says I have not met the limit on the size of my website.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my Front Page? I
have uninstalled front page and reinstalled it. I have
added the new windows updates and office updates and it
still occurs. I removed the mother lode page and then it
said the same error message but with "mother.lnk" in it
for writing. What is going on with this?

Please help.

aah there's the answer. If you can't publish using http:// the extensions are either not installed
or are corrupt ands therefore the hit counter will not work.
Also if you publish using ftp:// 2 things happen.
1. The extensions become corrupt.
2. The necessary files to run the hit counter are not published.

Have your host repair / reinstall the extensions and then publish using http:// Do *not* ftp://

I am sorry that my problem is so pesky and does not seem
to go away. I would be happy to send you screen shots but
if going to the page would help you here is the URL

http://streetwhispers.com

Also there are a few other things you may want to know if
they are impacting all this
1. I cannot publish using http://streetwhispers.com  I get
the message that says the frontpage server extensions are
not installed ... which is incorrect for I know they are
installed.

2. The server is behind a firewall and port 80 is open,
and you would see that you can access the website.

3. I am pulling my hair out as you can see the hit counter
is still not working.

Once again thank you for your help.

-----Original Message-----
Sorry, I had default.htm in my brain from another posters
question.

The home or default page in a web on your machine is
always named index.htm but when you publish,
FrontPage checks the server settings and then
automatically renames the home page to what the server
requires.
It can be index.htm  index.html  default.htm Default.htm
Default.html  and many more.

So:
Open the live site with FrontPage, by clicking File
Open web, and then entering
www.yourwebsite.com  You will be prompted for your server
user name and password, then the web will
open just like it does on your local machine.
When it opens, look at the home page and see what it's
named ( and remember it )

Close the "published web" and then open your local web
and  rename the local index.htm to match the
one on the server and click yes when prompted to rename
links to / from  other pages.
Then open the page for editing, remove the hit counter,
save, reinsert the hit counter, save.
Publish.

I am at a loss now.

How does one set the counter after oepening.Do you mean
I
should open the default.htm.snt page? and if so how do I
reset it.

Secondly I paste the html code about the counter from
the
default page. My default page is names as index.htm.

src="_vti_bin/fpcount.exe/D:/?
Page=index.htm|Image=3|Digits=7" alt="Hit Counter"><!--
webbot bot="HitCounter" i-checksum="47990" endspan --
</p

Thirdly there is red "X Hit Couter" that appears on
webpage.

Thank you

-----Original Message-----
The red x means the file is marked as do not publish,
which is normal so that updates to the local
web don't cause the file to publish and change  / reset
the count.

So, open the live site on the server. Open the page and
reset the count and then save the page.

This behavior occurs if the
IUSR_<computername
account
does not have
sufficient permissions to read and write to
the
<Pagename>.htm.cnt file,
where <computername> is the name of the
Windows
NT
server
and <Pagename> is
the name of the page that contains the Hit
Counter.

NOTE: The <Pagename>.htm.cnt file stores a
log of
how
many times the page
was accessed, thus incrementing the Hit
Counter.

This problem can also occur if the content has
been
copied or FTPd rather
than published to the Web. You can recalculate

to fix this
situation.

Contact your host to change the permissions on
the

Is it possible to create a new page in FrontPage 2003 that is based ona an
existing dynamic template rather than attaching the template afterwards?

If so, how is it done?

judithbear
Web site initially created w/FP98, computer crashed, extracted HD contents to
CD, saved them to new computer, installed FP2003 on new computer, published
local to remote using saved contents of CD. On remote site, navigation
doesn't appear in shared borders [top and left], however, bottom borders are
viewable. On local site all appears OK, and when "viewed in browser"
everything appears OK and works OK as well. Recalculated links and
republished. No change.

Running FP2003 on Windows XP home edition, site: www.cancersurvivors.org

I know this is something fixable, I just haven't been able to figure it out.
Am using Jim's FP2003 Inside Out as my resource material. Would very much
appreciate any thoughts and advice on how to solve this problem.

Been hosting a website with GoDaddy.com for four years. Have always used FP
(now using FP2002) over ftp. No problems until recently.

Now when I open the website through FP, it takes ~ 1 minute to get the log
in form, then ~ another 2 minutes to open the index page and at least
another minute or two to open the shared borders (including links).

Once the page is opened I can edit without any problem. Saving takes a bit
longer than I would expect but not to the extent of the opening sequence.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled server extensions on the server (using
GoDaddy's services). I've checked code to see if I have buggered code in my
header. I've cleaned up the themes, border and overlay folders to make sure
any old styles are completely gone.

Nothing changes. I'm also posting this to GodDaddy's support page but
thought I would come here to see if anyone else has seen problems as this.

If I read everything correctly, in order to use the data
features in FP2003 I need to be utilizing a Server 2003
with SharePoint Services running.

The part I do not understand is, does the hosting company
need this, do I need this, or both?

If the user is required to have a server running Server
2003, isn't that really limiting the number of people who
can use these features?

Thanks,

to "stand out" on the page and thus would like to use multiple colors of text
on one page. He also seems to pick the brightest, most obnoxious colors
possible, not worrying about whether the colors compliment each other or
completely clash. Does anyone know of any really good resources/articles
that I could share with him to give him a general idea of "what not to do on
a website" regarding colors? (or, am I completely wrong and shouldn't worry
about using the brightest colors that clash in various places throughout
text?)

I go throu the "insert, web componant, hitcounter,
finish, properties, click custom button, add address

appears on design page, save. I then use my FTP Client to
publish my new index.htm and my Hitcounter22.gif (which
is still in images). cant see image on design/preview/or
when i go to web brouser.

On my web it has the red x and the available space for
counter. I have the frontpage exts enabled.
This is the only code that is highlighted on the [hit
counter]

<!--webbot bot="HitCounter" i-image="5" I-ResetValue="0"

Any Help wud be good!!

Here is the issue:

I direct FP(03) to "open site" with the intention of editing site on the
server "live".

I have no problems, then out of the blue, when I go to save the latest
change, there is a long wait time and further inspection discovers that FP is
not responding.
After the hourglass disappears, all the images are not viewable (as if two
users are on the site at the same time), and there is an unwanted folder
saved on my desktop.
To be clear, the images are viewable through a browser, just not in FP.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be occurring? I contacted my
Host and there are not issues with the server. ( or so I'm told)
