Well, frankly, since you question your own drive you may not have it. Until
you get the "fire in your belly" should not even try to strike it out on
your own. I've read that something like 90%+ of all start-up businesses
faily within the first two years. It's not easy, so drive and discipline are
exactly what you need, in addition to skills, customers, and a little luck

As a lecurer on the subject of Internet I can offer alot of short
bullets.

This is Internet. You can find anything on the net. If you search for
something you wanted, and didnt find it, then you found a need. FILL IT.
This is Internet.

People who did sites to make money failed in large numbers. People who
did sites because they wanted to do a site on a favorite thing whether
it made money or not, often were the ones that ended up making money.
Many of the best known sites on the net started as "doing it for myself"
sites.

It is almost impossible to create a popular site. Your goal should be to
create a site. Period. Then expand it into a good site. Then upgrade the
layout to make the site impressive, visually pleasing, comfortable. When
you have those things then you can begin to work on making it a better
known site. Eventually you may end up with a popular site.

Do not ask what your site can do for you. Ask what you can do for your
site. The rest will come along.

For any "get rich quick" concept there are hundreds or even thousands of
sites doing it. On any subject you want to do a site about you can
easily link commission pages for equipment, books, music, tshirts,
mousepads, mugs, posters, knickknacks, tools, in versions which have to
do with the subject. This will make it a bigger site. But it will still
just be "another site" on that subject. To be more than just links you
will need to offer content. To offer content you will need to be
involved in the subject. If you arent involved in the subject, pick a
new subject.

What can you use a computer for? What a strange question. Its a tool.
What CANT you use it for? What you need is a list of things in your life
that want to spend more time involved in. Then use your computer to do
that.

I know what you mean. [! ack i hate that part, too] It is a necessary skill
though if you want to break out of a 9to5 thing. Consider some business and/or
marketing classes with direct focus on the entepreneur/freelancer. Also
consider your ideal triad may be teaming up with a salesman to hold up that
end, a programmer for the back end, with yourself as the designer.

Of course there is hope. Most successful businesses were formed by people who
compliment each other's abilities or lack of. Two guys who can both do the same
thing but nothing else probably won't go as far as two guys who can each handle
different ends of the business.

I can understand your frustration and certainly feel for you. :]

Your boss sounds concerned about whether his output for labor is producing a
return, a legitimate concern.
Do you have some mentoring organizations or programs available to you?
Is the boss the sort you could actually discuss your frustration with and is he
in the position to offer you an alternative avenue?
Look to some older, retired business people for some guidance. [something like
S.C.O.R.E. http://www.score.org/ ]

No worries there, Mezza! Your frustration is very real. You need to focus on
its absolute core and solve that issue first. Is your creativity being stifled?
Are you not being paid enough for what you're asked to do? Are your job
expectations over what you're actually capable of? Are you withering with the
regimentaion of a 9to5? See where I'm going with this. Nail that down and then
attempt to fix it. Other things may actually start to fall into place after
that.

Doing something you really hate is poisonous. It creeps into your off time,
your social life, and interrupts your sleep. Your heart will try to scream over
