Levi,

You might want to try an application designed for making labels. Take
a look at Bar Tender for Windows. You can download the trial edition
which works like the full version of the software for 30 days. You
may find this is a more practical solution.

You can design the layout for a single item and specify how it will be
repeated on the page. For example, one column across and 10 items per
page, something like that. You can drop in text, images, barcodes,
etc. Bar Tender will read the variable data from any ODBC compliant
database.

Here's a link for info and the trial download:

Very odd.
I went back into the root directory and found a htaccess file that I

I had tried one of them long ago to prevent hotlinking, but not all of
my visitors were able to see my images so I removed it.
Anyway, I've deleted that file now. Can you try again and let me know if

I dont think the batch process is done in Illustrator. Instead some
other

I think you should call a digital printer or a prepress company and

A question, why didn't you let it "fade out" towards the bottom as you did on the

something with just fading out the background, not the figure, eh? I can see that

Also, that shadowy area in the middle (on the shoulder) is *totally* black on my

Thanx alot for your reply.

The black in the middle worried me a bit but isn't too hard on my monitors.
I will try to do something with it.
Also try the fadein as you mentioned.

As for the meaning I rarely explain my intentions for the image as this
conflicts with my "philosphy" about my creative work.
I want people to start thinking and get their own idea for themselves. :)

But here is something that I got from someone else. ;) heh

"It's Thoth, the ibis-headed god of writing, and more than that it's Capit,
from the Latin "caput," head--the offset and the bird's head in profile make
us look again, seeing a Januslike second image in the rough patch left of
the bird. The curved streak of light extending from the beak is a nice
response to the curved letters, and the straight artifact that cuts across
it acknowledges the montage, but it is well unified by your colors and the
darkened borders. Evocative on many levels. "

It's definitely improving, Tony. The look is becoming more refined. I
find the palette very pleasant and appropriate to the topic.

A few comments:

Why are you reserving that right-hand column space? You could move
'Our Pledge' to the right-hand column and get them closer to the top.
Things like 'Email this link' and 'bookmark this page' are pretty
gimmicky and just take up space -- I doubt if people will use them.

Your textlinks disappear on mouseover in the dark areas. You may wish
to define a different set of colors for links that appear on the dark
brown vs. your main content area.

The beveled buttons stand out from the site -- maybe drop the bevel
and apply a border similar to what's on the right-hand boxes. Tie it
all together a little more.

Keep at it, Tony. It's coming together.

I like the overall look, Tony. It's very appropriate to the content. The
disappearing text in the nav bar is a little annoying and could be a little
bigger for my poor old eyes. I prefer the buttons on the gallery pages to
the home page. Not only easier to read, but they also look more period to
me. So far so good though. It's easy to navigate and I like the feel.

BFM
Looking better.

I would suggest changing the border of the site. The colonial period was a
mix of Florentine, British, and New-world architecture. In other words,
little squiggles and embellishments... but not too much.

I would change the border to something of an ornamental frame.

Too many text styles. I would stick with a 'serif' font style (like an old
typewriter). Something that is period orientated.

The mouse-over's on the left-side should change from dark to light, rather
than darker.

The GIF animations on the right hand side (bottles) needs to be changed to
flash, or something that is much quicker to load and animate.

Otherwise, the colour's look good, and the overall feel is definitely
getting there.

Ben -- thanks for the tip. They have some great stuff, regardless!

Tomas -- we don't have a full fledge design department, and I asked a
local printer who just shrugged and said, "I don't have that." I'm
hitting the bricks asking more designers I know, and if that doesn't
work, I'm sending it out to a more "aggressive" print house to spec

Your artwork is, in effect, blank because you have not added anything to

anything, you have created an anti-image, because in another medium your

Dear All,

I have read with great interest your views on my last post
and feel I must post one final message - if only to clarify one thing.

I agree with you !

The music industry is not all "On Spec" however a section of our core
business is.
We do a lot of "On Spec" work on the basis that when a new project makes
money so do we.
(sometimes better than having a large advance that you spend years paying
back to a major label !)

So therefore to clarify the web designer request we were looking for like
minded people who wished to be involved in our own project long term - as
profile building that will lead to other work, (via links, word of mouth,
etc)
also being part of something that will hopefully grow in time and make
money
for ALL involved.

I didn't intend to offend and thanks to all who have mailed me direct..

What a great thread -  who said the art of conversation was dead? (big up
Carol)

Thanks

Steve

Right you little turd. Coming from someone who recently spammed a bunch of
groups trying to rip off everyone with your stupid "Help 2 Students" scheme.

I think that these are just some guys with a garage band and want a
web site. So they are trying to suck someone into doing one for free
because they can't afford to pay.

If this is the case, then they should be honest about it and perhaps
someone will do some charity work for them.

But the only charities I will work for are ones where the money they
raise will go to a good cause. ie: Heart and Stroke Foundation

I offered them services for $500, not a lot for this kind of thing.
They replied saying that there is no budget at all.

for a company that with LARGE and SMALL record companies, you think
they could find $500 to help one of their ARTISTS that require GOOD
web sites.

I am struggling myself right now, but I will not work for a commercial
business for free, unless it was a work term or family member

Apparently they're just another freeloader. I'm sure their artists would
appreciate knowing that this record company is willing to spend exactly $0
to promote them online.

wanted to se the pics too :o(

Very odd.
I went back into the root directory and found a htaccess file that I
hadn't put there.
I had tried one of them long ago to prevent hotlinking, but not all of
my visitors were able to see my images so I removed it.
Anyway, I've deleted that file now. Can you try again and let me know if
it works for you?

I was hoping that would be the answer... but to no avail :o(

I cleared my cache before checking again as well. I'll be checking
tomorrow
as well, I'll let you know when I can see any images.

I CAN SEE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhh, sigh of relief ;o)

They are fantastic, as usual! My fav is the bottom right hand stamp, that
exaggerated cigar makes it.

Thanks for sharing Jeff.

Must have been that extra htaccess file. I have no clue how it ended up
in there. I wonder how long it's been there...

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to look and the kind words.
