Hi ADG'ers,
I come back from Corsica just two days ago.  The weather was nice but more
warm than in the past years.
I enjoyed myself a lot swimming and going sailing with a catamaran, very
exciting and fast ;-)

What's happened in the meantime? Have you some good news?

Maggie Gyllenhaal (pronounced Jillenhall) played secretary Lee Holloway to
James Spader's Mr. E. Edward Grey. You only see this kind of chemistry on
film every few years; the entire project flew well under Hollywood's radar.

I thought thats what made the movie so good. It showed people moving to a
different drummer than the 'normal' folks and it worked marvelously.
Movies
that can actually make you feel anything let alone sad and 'excited'

and happy all at the same time... well I think that's where she was too...
We were right there with her. How many movies work on that level at all?
In any case, I think her solution was much healthier than her original
one,
don't you?

now of course the question is 'what's her name'?
I think we should be seeing more of her based on her work in this movie
though...
Lets hope so...

Not at all sexy?

In a way, yes... but it was more sad for me than anything a lot of the
time...
It was a little disturbing, but you're right, there were parts of the
movie
that were very sexy for me.

I like the splash except for the img-border and the bg-img being
repeated.

The innerpage is very soft and could do with some contrast.

I don't like the bg-img of the innerpag.

That CED-thing is distracting because it introduces green and is 1 of
the 2 blacks.

The lack of red makes the yellow inside turn to desert heat. My throat
gets dry looking at it.

Apparently those Aeron chairs by Herman Miller (?) are supposed to be really
good.

I need a new chair myself...it goes up and down with a screw system instead
of hydrolic, and the threads have become stripped.  I feel like I'm sitting
on the floor now.

Look in the yellow pages for a big used office furniture place -- preferably
one that also sells new. I got a great Steelcase chair for $125 that sold for
$500 new. Very lightly used, tons of adjustment. Nice and sturdy.
The store I went to was more of a warehouse. They had over 100 new chairs and a
good selection of used ones. Good discounts on the new ones, too.
Aaron Rents Office Furniture has lots to try, too. They had a nice one by
LazyBoy.
I've given up on the cheapos from Best Buy and Office Depot. Just don't last.

MOST designers here perch just like parrots in front of their computer,
except for the gothic ones, who perch upside down, like bats.

I agree -- I bought my husband a chair at Ikea, and he loves it. He
probably spends about 10 hours a day sitting at his keyboards and needed a
good chair with back support -- so like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we
went to Ikea so he could try each chair...and he finally found one that was
"just right." :-)

So far it's lasted three years....

I get most of my info and resources from magazines and not the internet.

My most exciting find was a George Nelson bench...not a repro, but the real
deal. I had NO idea what it was -- just liked it and bought it. My
neighbour just about had a heart attack when he saw that I had it outside on
the porch with plants on it. After that, I was hooked.

Actually, they're surprisingly sturdy. Especially the pieces from the

You can find mint-condition Eames chairs that you would think were brand

What is this movie?

It's a soldier movie with werewolves.
Horror with some suitably black humour to go with it.

For my money, the best thing I saw at the cinema last year.

Jonesy2222
Well - about six years ago I invested in a chair (on sale for $275) from Office
max.

It had a high back, plenty of padding in back and for rump - and arms.

It also swirlveled around and had wheels (casters) to roll.

One when you are looking for a 'comfortable' chair - look at the front where
your legs bend at the knee.

Do not buy something 'flat' but go for 'rounded' - when I was in Business
school the pointed this out - the flat is not as comfortable and puts pressure
on the under part of where you knee is.

I liked the clothe better - thick green (emerald) tweedish material - thick -
and wiped clean (coffee spills).

When I moved recently - I left it behind (regret it now)

It also did move up and down - for better seating.

I liked it alot - and saved up for it.

When I freelanced more - I was in that chair easily - over 14 hours a day at
times - and I have a broken tailbone - and never felt uncomfortable.

:)

Sometimes when I think I've experienced freezes I really haven't. It's just

I'm sure many of you are like me in that you spend hours and hours
sitting in your chair all day.  So I'm wondering, what are the best
chairs out there for those of us who spend most of our life in one?
My chair should be sent out to pasture, so I'd like to get one as
ergonomically correct as possible, something that will take some of
the strain out of sitting hour after hour before my computer.  If you
love your chair, please tell me about it!

I'd love to help, but I hate both my chair at work and my chair at home.
the work chair is a cheapy office type chair that creaks and groans a
lot when I move, and I'd like to replace it (I'll probably switch it out
sometime when no one is looking). And, my chair at home is a hulking
beast of vinyl and metal that is prone to sinking and/or loosing wheels
at the slightest provocation. I hate both of them.

Joanne... if you were disappointed in the drekky flick "City of Angels" I
recommend the movie it was based on a multi-lingual, foreign film,  "Far
Away So Close"..... Beside the great visuals  the sound track is wonderful.
The story drags in a few spots but it's definitely worth a look.

Tony,
Thanks for the reccommendation. We've got a very good idependent video
rental shop in town. They have a great foreign selection; I'll bet
they'll have it.

Anyone here have a bit of experience with MEDIA CLEANER 5.0? Please
respond..

I have a few flash movies exported as uncompressed AVIs...I'm pulling them
into
media cleaner to compress them for the web..The animation looks like
shit..Media Cleaner will not allow me to select some of the codecs..I'm
obviously doing something wrong..Have no clue..I've been working on this
for
like 10 hours..still no deal.

If it is only a compression issue I would try to use Sorenson Squeeze that
allow you to export the file in swf or flv format and then reimport it into
Flash. This application offer a lot more compression options than the
Sorenson compression tool built into Flash.

QUOTE
Also..Has anyone had a problem exporting Quicktime 4.0 from Flash MX? It
freezes up everytime I try to export a quicktime movie..

You must consider your computer power and how are big your files, anyway
sometimes the computer doesn't freezes but it's processing your file. Go
out, take a cup of coffe and return later....;-)

I hope this will help you

cheers

I am in the same boat. Now that I freelance 100%, I am needing a good
comfortable chair. The one I have right now is so bad. My tailbone hurts
after a while and oh the back pain! I try to take many breaks, but it still
doesn't help. I would LOVE to get a chair from Relax the Back Store but they
are completely out of my range (www.relaxthebackstore.com). They have one
simple chair at about $500, then the others are around $1500/$2500. I sat in
them at the store, and they are incredibly comfortable. You can really tell
a difference between a good chair and a bad one when you sit in one of
theirs.

what sort of animations are they?

if they are already in flash, why not use flash?

They are animations that FLASH will DEFINITLY not handle ..I'm using flash (
basically ) as a compositing program...I have a ton of video/ and big PNG files
mixed in with vector animations all compiled together..Keyframes lumped ontop
of keyframes..My SWF export is 20 megs..My AVI export is 300 megs..

Let me rephrase this..

Does anyone know of a good codec to use that will compress animation well..I've
been trying to use SORENSON with every possible setting and it makes the video
look great..and the animation look like crap. One of my friends recommended
APPLE QUICKTIME ANIMATION...I used it..Looks great..However, the file size is
enormous no matter what I do..It's a one minute video..22 megs..Not good. I
want to put this on the web.

how long is "a while"? It could take 10 or more hours to render the video
depending upon file size and processor power.

Davide Montellanico
May be you haven't seen my previous post, anyway I suggested you to use
Sorenson Squeeze, it's a totally different thing compared to Sorenson Spark
Standard Edition *the CODEC used by Flash MX* it's more powerfull.

here's the link
http://www.sorenson.com/application_custom...atalog.php#mxwf

have a good luck ;-)

Hey Lenny.

I actually just moved from Apex back to Garner. I lived in Apex for two
years, but just bought a house in Garner, where I'm living and working now.

Small world. We should get together for a cup of coffee or a beer sometime.

Thanks for the comments on the site. Much appreciation...

I think it's nice I dig the layout... Comments below

1. Once you get the text hardocded in I think everything will pop
better.

2. I would lose the splash page. It's not really neccessary.

3. Perhaps do something to the main nav along the top to make it stand
out more.. I am not talking hard-edged buttons but maybe something
ghosted and on rollover it can pop into view a little better. Maybe
make the text a little heavier bold it up a bit.

Whoever said this looked more like a bad brochure is dead wrong - this
is a good start to a nice site! Simple, clean, and iot strikes the
kind of feel a company like this needs...

Are you in NC? I am in Apex, NC

Got another one coming down the pipe, and I'd like some opinions. It's a
pretty simple straight redesign of http://www.orieltherapeutics.com and
we're shooting to match some of their new brand materials and

much of what they do yet, since we don't have content and industry
specific imagery in there, so I guess I'm just looking for opinions on
the overall look & feel...

Any opinions, both good and bad, are welcome...

Exactly, anytime, anywhere, for any reason. Flash...bad.

Hence the need for legislation.
