If I ever visit any of the cities, it would not be just to call a black
man a 'nigger'. I actually wish I could talk to black people in the US.
They were always quite amazing to me. I'm very proud I have friends from
Africa. I like them very much.

Blacks in America have been here from nearly the beginning so you may
find it
surprising to know that most could care less about Africa and have
absolutely
nothing in common to Africans besides physical appearances. :)

Well, that's not what 2Pac died for. Anyway, I was talking about my friends
in Belgrade, who *are* from Africa (Sudan, Guinea Bisao, Etiopia, Nigeria).

QUOTE

If you think that the only point of this thread is whether black people
should be called 'niggers' or not, than you've really gone off-course.
The main point is actually how racial differences are treated here
compared to your country. The absence of PC speach, and all other things
may sound very nasty to you, but it is very normal here. Blacks here
just don't feel offended by being called 'chamoogas' which is a Serbian
version of 'negro'.

For example, in Serbia we have a candy called 'Negro' -- not after black
people, but because that word 'negro' means 'black' and the candy is
black. When one of my African friends was eating the candy, we called
him a 'canibal' (as a joke of course), and he laughed at the joke. He
was not offended at all.

In the US, it would probably be politically incorect even to call a
candy 'Negro'?

-- Branko

Of course it would be since it doesn't mean the same thing here.

Yeah, I know. That's my point. That's why I wouldn't consider calling black
person a 'nigger' in Belgrade a nasty crime against a human. In the US,
yes, it would be nasty. Which is unfortunate. A 'negro' manss black. The
word that is. So why not call a black person black? That's very
unfortunate. I never minded people calling me yellow. Also, being yellow
does have some advantages and disadvantages that cannot/souldn't be easily
overlooked.

But how would you classify the art?  Could the director and author be
held legally responsible for any death or injury?

I believe that a few "pre" fluxus era artists ( late 50's, early 60's )
developed "danger music". High pitched frequencies, really super loud noises
etc.etc.. There were a few deaths involved in preformances..Including people
jumping out of windows. I don't remember names right now..Just remember reading
it.
I don't think the artist was charged with murder or manslaughter.

Why does design so much want to be art? It could very well stand for

Excellent.

A minor quibble is that the mouseovers are kind of harsh in comparison
with the elegance of the rest of the site. Maybe just change the text
color and drop the background color change.

Also, on the inside pages I found the text a bit too light and too
much contrast between the text color and link color.

Very nice....cpg

thanks for that..

i agree and will change the text colour, as for the mouseovers i wanted the
'donate' button to flash and have used the mouseover bg colour change as a
way of distinguishing between the flashing button and a regular mouseover
effect...

its all open for change tho :)

Hello All ... I've been lurking in this group for quite a while. Many
of you have extensive knowledge in website creation.

I am not a designer and have no plans on becomming one. So don't be
worried about any competition :) My aim is to find an easy to use web
building tool so I can create and maintain my own site.

The site will be about 5 pages including an Welcome page    and a
bunch of pics in thumbnail form.

I have looked at Frontpage and Netscapes free design tool ... anyway,
your suggestions are most welcomed.

Our IT department is planning on getting me a new computer (3.06ghz

be
playing any games on this system, so I really don't need anything
fancy,
so I'm tempted to ask for a basic, 64 or 128meg video card. But, I
wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions for what manufacturer I
should ask for. The card will be hooked up to a 22" monitor, and I
plan
to run the video at 1600x1280 @32bit color.

Will your motherboard support AGP 8x? If so, I say go all out and ask
for one of these:

or one of these:

Sorry, I had a client come in and I wasn't done typing. I've just
switched from a Matrox G550 to a ATI Radon 9500 Pro and I'm extremely
happy with it's performance. ATI has just replaced the 9500 Pro with
the 9600 Pro (which is actually a little slower) so the price has
dropped to around $150 and it's with every penny. I'm not saying that
ATI makes the best card or anything, just that I am very impressed with
both it's 2D and 3D performance.

I read a lot, just not in libraries, and having a deep thought, for me anyway,

But since you can't resist proclaming a definition about it, I don't
believe you.

I dont really think that me saying "anything can be art" is a proclamation of
its definition, just how I feel about it personally. I simply don't adhere to
the standard of trying to define art as one specific thing.

"He would not sign his pictures, he said, or admit publicly that he had made
them, or describe how they were made. He plainly expected puffed up critics to
sweat bullets and excrete sizable chunks of masonry when trying to answer his
cunningly innocent question: "Art or not?"

"I was pleased to reply with an epistle which was frankly vengeful, since he
and Father had screwed me out of a liberal arts college education: "Dear
Brother: This is almost like telling you about the birds and the bees," I
began. "There are many good people who are beneficially stimulated by some, but
not all manmade arrangements of colors and shapes on flat surfaces, essentially
nonsense. "You yourself are gratified by some music, arrangements of noise, and
again essentially nonsense. If I were to kick a bucket down the cellar stairs,
and then say to you that the racket I had made was philosophically on a par
with The Magic Flute, this would not be the beginning of a long and upsetting
debate. An utterly satisfactory and complete response on your part would be, "I
like what Mozart did, and I hate what the bucket did."

And modern sitcoms. Unfortunately, it is a VERY destructive act. A 13 yo

pedophiles have a history of such encounters. It is a very strong

Uh, did she actually *abuse* the kid, or they were merely having ?
There's a difference. A normal 13-year old has fair understanding of his
sexuality. I did when I was 13, at least.

It's quite common nowadays for 'little' boys and girls in Serbia to at
least want to have at the age of 13. It wasn't some time ago, but now
it's increasingly accepted.

Besides, she's only 21. That's 8 years difference. My parents are 15 years
apart.

Typical respons from a child molester. Just because it is happening does
not mean it is right! I just heard about a 12 you giving birth. The fatehr
was also around the same age. Then there was the grade school where a large
number of childern were engaging in oral . Many had genital warts in
thier mouth and throat! These children are NOT ready to accept this type of
responsibility. That teacher is DEFINATEY guilty of sexual assault, whether
it is legal or not and should NEVER be allowed to have authority over
children again. Check out the problems with the Catholic Church in the US.
They just do what that school did and actually encourage the practice to
continue and children to be destroyed.

Yes, yes, we know we are all one race when you look at the world as a whole but
the comment I made above I think is very accurate. Besides some blacks who have

pedophiles have a history of such encounters.  It is a very strong
ingredient in creating child molesters/pedophiles and rapists.

Make a video game out of it and they will understand. :)

If they are rotating slow enough 9 fans can easily be much quieter than 1 at a
high rpm.

While I won't disagree with your premise, the slower the blades turn,
the larger they would have to be to accomplish the same amount of
cooling. I would find it hard to believe that they have substantially
enlarged the fans *and* increased the number, while maintaining the same
noise level.
No data or empirical evidence to back up my theory about the actual G5,
just thinking out loud.

The 2000 census was the first time I've seen an option other than black,

categories. 'Bout freakin' time.

Carol, when I have to fill out forms and they ask for 'race' I put 'human'.
I think it's kept me from getting a few jobs here and there, but I don't

Fascinating. Anyone who disagrees with you is going to get labeled a child
molester? That's pretty disgusting. Also, it's well known that many
molesters are also survivors of abuse themselves. That makes you a
disgusting person who might be a prime candidate for initiating abuse.

I don't want to associate with someone like you. Please leave.

a 13 year old has just been pushed into puberty... I doubt they would be
acting like a 20 year old with all those hormones running around.

So are you saying that non-physical maturity requires a certain level of
hormones flowing through your system?

no, I'm saying at that point in your life, your too busy with trying to

Well the physical part requires no effort or time :) The only part left is
emotional and mental maturity. I don't see why that can't be learned at that
age, or even younger.

... I'm yet to met a 13 year old that has the same maturity level as

fact is, they havent had enough experience in life to bring themselves to be

The scary part is that they ask for race...

"So lets see who is most qualified for the work... No, this one has to go,
she left the race-field blank..." Does this happen?

If so, you have really big problems, IMO.

OTOH, you dont see any tick-boxes stating race in Sweden since its against
the law, but that doesn't stop discrimination. It finds other ways, more
subtile. I do think society has to make real clear that it does not accept
discrimination. The only way to do that is to market those values and to
adjust the leaal system.

For instance is it now illegal to wear nazi symbols in public. Strangly
though, one can carry the image of Stalin without being arrested... Probably
the Stalin brand is not so strong as the swastika...

No, I'm presenting an open and alternative view on the matter and attempting to
support it in contrast to your one sentence derogatory statement. The only
writing above that I see that is immature is unfortunately your own.

Many other cultures in the world do not take such a hard and absolute line on
such matters. If you consider that view as "immature" then you must have a
unique definition of the word.

It is bizarre that in any democratic society, or one closely resembling one
would outlaw any political symbol. I think Germany and France are also wrong in
that regard. They are commiting the same actions that the Nazis were well known
for.
